Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder!

We found three little hardcover books in one of the antique stores and of course my sister had to rescue this one!

 

The one on the left has some lovely embossing and is shiny silver!

A delightful little story!

Left In Charge!

The pages were brown with age.

Jennie Chappell was the author and I Googled her with no success!

Look at the litho's that follow the story!

Absolutely amazing artwork!

Was the story a product of some English Lady's bored imagination? 

Did she have to write to earn a living?

How many pennies would she have received for this work?

So precious and beautiful! 

I'm glad my sister takes home strays!

I like to take my photos and download them straight from the camera to my posts. No cropping on these and no alterations.

Maybe they're not perfect, but I feel good presenting them this way.

Barns!

A perfect little red beauty sitting in a field behind a farmhouse. 
Well, more of a hobby farm house, I think....
In the west end of Elgin County, Ontario.

How Dick and I would love to have a barn just this size!

We would fill it with street rods and parts and Oh! 

We would have us some fun!

 

Still, as with most of the others... the weeds grow in front of the doors

At least they've covered the lower windows with plywood! 

The red looked quite fresh, although the metal roof and white trims could sure use a fresh coat of paint!

All of these photos were again shot and loaded directly from my Nikon P90 without alteration of any kind.

Winter Scenes

The Delaware Dam was excavated and built when I was in my teens. My dad was involved in the planning and build, because he was on council for the township and county for most of his life.

It was previously a meandering creek that wanders for miles and dumps into the Thames river, not too far from the location of the dam. The resulting pond is about a mile in length and has provided a great many people with fun and entertainment ever since. 

Snowmobilers, rouge campers and mostly fisher people always park their cars along the road and simply wander in. Once again, I don't know for sure if it was stocked, but they certainly catch fish there.

These are a few photographs I took there the first of February.

 

This is looking to the west.

My post about ice fishing was also taken at the dam and most of those photos were taken to the east.

 

The photographs almost look to be in black and white, except for a few straggling leaves in bright brown!

 

I find the snow depression beside the road posts amazing!

You wouldn't think a wooden post would heat up enough in the sun to melt the surrounding snow, would you?

 

A dull and dismal day so normal for February!

Purple Martin Bird Houses

Pretty soon we'll all be thinking spring and wanting to gear up for the season. 


I can hardly wait for the birds to start flocking back. Oh! To hear their songs again! I don't care what kind they are or whether they're good birds or bad birds, I just love them! Our poor little Suzie just sits in the window all day long during spring, summer and fall until we close the storms and have to shut down the big windows. All winter she'll reach up to the sills and look back at us as if to beg us to open them again! I hope she doesn't think that because we've shut the windows, the birds go away?


Driving through the countryside the other day, we spotted some awesome purple martin houses. This is a breed of bird that we all encourage to come because of all the insects, mostly mosquitoes, that they'll eat in a day. Way better than pesticides and repellents?

 

They are so low on the pole because after the Purple Martins leave in the fall, you'll lower the houses down so the starlings and other 'undesirable' birds don't claim the nests. Then in spring, you'll raise them up. The birds like them nice and high! These looked manufactured though and quite 'new age." 

(Which is interesting, because this farm is owned by a Mennonite Family.) 

On close examination, they appear to be made of plastic? 

 

Wow!  

These are awesome! I'll have to go to the Aylmer Co- Op and see if that's where they bought them!

Well, there's some evergreens and red Christmas - like Lights?

Are we in Canada?

We're not tellin' ya! 

I was met with stony silence!

Maybe Arizona? There's cactus... Maybe Las Vegas?

A garden path... is it England?

This man wouldn't tell me either!

I tried to get out! Is this the way out?

Out the door I went. Oh! It was Lakeview Gardens!
