Collecting Dolls

This post is for all the doll collectors in the world.  I must admit, I always look at dolls, but it's not my thing. Yes, they are pretty and sweet and the dresses and hair are beautiful, but I want to look at cars and junk art rather than dolls. Call me callus or insensitive, but that's just me.

I did however, find a couple of little dollies that I wanted to share.

Did I say little?

That's a regular side table and dresser there! This little girl stood a good three feet tall!

Another sister was standing to one side.
I asked: 'Could I please take your photo today?"

I thought I heard a small baby chuckle. I whirled! But no movement!
Your ears are playing tricks on you! I scolded myself!

The beautiful brunette stood watching over her sisters. All stony and certainly silent. Just a doll I said.

Once more, I turned to the lovely blonde lass and chastised myself!
'You're seeing things that aren't there old girl!' I said!

                                 .....Then oh! What was that?

Is she staring through your soul too?

I ran!

People Out Living Life!

Ice Fishing Family Style

Over at the Delaware dam, the families always show up to enjoy some great fishing. I think that they catch bass, but don't know if it was stocked or not. (I should know, but sorry, I don't!)

It makes a great winter photo story.

The ice was apparently frozen enough!
(It always makes me nervous!)

Mom's, dad's and chillun's all out for the day...
Good for them!

Looked like they'd done this more than once!

The piles divided, off they went.
(Notice? The women and children weren't required to really carry?)
Awesome guys!

They set up there camp. I wasn't sure why they had decided here until...

I saw through the lens that a hole had already been cut!
They must be regulars?

I love the two on the left!
Yup! There's fish down there!

Almost made me want to go home and get out the gear!

I started my car, rolled the window up and saner thoughts prevailed!

Barns!

While cruising the back roads, we stumbled upon another awesome barn.

Still in pretty good condition, but obviously really not used anymore. It's a shame, but everyone who knows will agree that if a barns is not in use, it will literally die and this tidy one is in the beginning stages.

The windows are falling in or have been knocked out.

It still has Hydro, but whether they breaker is switched on?
I'd love to know the story behind that huge arcing scratch under the window! (Obviously done before the hydro stack was installed.)

The cement foundation is starting to crack and disintegrate.
Once again, I love the striations of the rust marks!

The birds and animals have chewed and clawed holes for entry.
(See near the peak, there's a door and a hole?)

So "Secret Garden"
I wonder how long it's been since a human used this door?

Cutting It Close

I asked myself this question today:

What exactly is "cutting it too close"?

Every day we have decisions to make. What choice to make? Volunteer for the difficult task your manager offers that you know will challenge you or simply sit back in the boardroom, make yourself as tiny as possible and hope that someone else will stick their neck out? Which one is cutting it too close?

Here's another situation. It's a common occurrence where you're having a conversation with someone and you disagree and you try to think of some words or a phrase to express your opposing opinion without causing an argument or offending the person who's opinion you oppose?

What is cutting it too close?

Is it where you risk your reputation?
Put it out there, on the line and you either come out smelling like a rose or like week old vase water?

Or, is it any time that you're left with your legs dangling over the edge of the cavern and you just manage to grit your teeth, hang on and somehow against the odds, you keep upright?

What is cutting it too close?

Cattle in a Field

How my Daddy loved Herefords!

We had about 15 acres of pasture on our farm just so Dad could keep a few cattle in the summer. He always just thought they looked so nice on the farm!
(I know, eccentric, but we had a business that fed us!)

The day my sister and I were out toot-elling around, we spied this pasture with this nice small herd.

Nice blue sky and a contented heard.
You can tell because they aren't eating so they must be getting lots of grain and hay!

This rich rusty red brown is the characteristic hereford color and the white markings are so crisp.
They're curly furred faces are so sweet!

I think, even with their scraggy coats, that they are beautiful!

What's Inside? Courtland Warehouse

The Courtland Antique and Collectible Warehouse!

One of the many delights this little village has and well worth the drive or day trip! If you're coming from 'someplace far'... accommodation is only a half hour drive away in Simcoe or Tillsonburg.

This vintage Grist Mill holds a treasure trove of delights for a collector of anything!

Come inside and see what we've got!

This is a multi dealer mall featuring affordable quality antiques, gifts and collectibles. There's also a small cafe in back offering light refreshments.

One of the first thing to catch my eye was this set of Wedgewood dishes in soft, glossy blue.

I find the powder blue irresistible!

Notice the old two by sixteens the roof is made of?

Any green glass collectors out there?

I personally love Flo Blue and have several plates of various patterns myself.

The Fiesta ware pitchers are hard to find around here too!

Anybody building a rec room?

These wooden bobbins came from one of the local textile factories that used to be in the area.
They make great candle holders!

Books Galore! Wait!
Is that a cook book for pies and tarts? I have to buy that!

I hope you've enjoyed tagging along with me and my sister today.
We both enjoy junking and plan on many more trips.
Don't worry, you can pack on the back anytime!

In Search Of Pie!

It's a wonder we ever need to wash the car, we drive so many miles just for the fun of it! You'd think all the dirt would just blow off!

About 30 miles from our house is a small town called Springfield. Yes, there's a hundred Springfield's and almost every state and province has one, don't they?

Ah yes.... the Pillar and Post!

No! Not the famous one in Niagara on the Lake where the Clinton's have stayed and eaten, but a little infamous one in an old building where all the locals go. You know, one of those places that serves dynamite food?

Here's what the outside looks like:

Brick that's been painted. Nice purple awning though?

Walk inside and oh!

Nice restored wood details and floors.

Just a nice, family style place.

Daily specials. Full meals, breakfast lunch and dinner.
We quite often go over for breakfast because they make killer eggs Benny!

This particular Sunday, we met several friends. Of course Mickey Mouse pancakes are a must!

Everybody though I was nuts because I of course ordered pie!
Bumbleberry!

For those who don't have Bumbleberry, it is a mixture of all berries like raspberry and blackberry and strawberry. (I think it's kind of what ever you have at the time of baking?)
Had a tartness to it because this one had rhubarb in it too!

Nice flaky pastry! A hand fluted edge too!

Do you want the first bite?

Ah! Ode to Pie?

Crusty, Flaky Fruity, I love you all.
May you dwell in Lucy's mouth forever!

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder!

A Birdhouse Tree!

Human beings always amaze me with their ability to take something that could be an eyesore and turn it onto art or a decoration.

Once a graceful old tree,
this stump has become a home for the birds!
I love it!

Obviously home made houses with details and serious cuteness!

Perhaps not made by a cabinet maker, but still so creative!

I'll definitely have to drive back and take more shots in the summer when the pots are full!
Home owner: Good for you!

Winter Scenes Creek

A beautiful creek in winter!

Wanderlust is my constant companion.
   Where does that road go?

A serene country cemetery lane.
I love how the streak from the windshield looks like a 'Touched By An Angel' sort of light beam!

Taken with my Nikon P90
Downloaded straight from the camera and posted without alteration.
