Mountains and Highways

We were gone... Now we're back!

Did you miss us? Of course not and I did that on purpose!
Just a little bit of a lecture here my friends. Don't let the whole world know when you go away! I made sure I had enough posts done for the whole time we were away and then every day just logged in and posted one. ( We also have a cat / house sitter so the princess is safe too!)

And... Now you're going to get to see all my Florida trip pictures. Yaay! I have tons of stuff to show you and brand new things to write about!


First of all... we left home in February and we always travel down through Detroit, go over to Sandusky, Ohio and cross the 250 to 77, the freeway. We find it's less busy, more scenic and we love the Virginia's and Carolina's!


Tons of snow this year and this is the worst of ice for going through the mountains.

 It was a cold and bleak trip this time even though these were taken about five in the evening...

 The next morning we started down through Virginia and we were looking forward to the bigger mountains!

Not quite as much snow, but still lots for that state. Still not much green...

 
We're so lucky and have never had any really difficult weather on our trips back and forth. Even though the hills had snow, the pavement was bare and dry. (Flying Magnum!)

The big trucks have to use all their gears and all their brakes to go up and down these steep hills!

77 isn't as bad for billboards as 75 is, but they're still there. We actually enjoy them and their slogans and commercial pitches. Imagine how hard it must be to compete with everyone when you have to pull your business in off a freeway!

Weeeee!

Each turn a new adventure. 

BRRRRRRR.........

When you get into the really steep mountains, they've built in some runaway ramps. So, if you're brakes fail, you aim for one of these steep ramps filled with soft sand and your vehicle will sink down in and stop. Far superior to letting it fling itself and you uncontrollably down a steep incline!

Finally the top of 'The Rock' in North Carolina and we head down out of the mountains.




I hope you've enjoyed our trip through the mountains. If you ever get a chance to drive this way, you just have to. It's an experience you wouldn't want to miss!




It's always a thrill to get to the mountains and we are always glad to get out of them too! I love searching for something green and deer and birds.These are only a few of couple of hundred pictures I took just in the mountains alone!
