Freedom
Our freedom is taken for granted....
I want to honor some of the people who gave so much!
The horrid contraption was an actual slave collar.
I'm sorry if I upset you, (my stomach contracts when I look at it.)
The wide arms were meant to catch in tree branches to slow a slave down if they ran.
I walked up to the display inside the Henry Ford and I was drawn to the glass! My hand involuntarily reached out towards the piece of metal and I laid my palm flat against the glass. My eyes filled with tears. I gave a silent prayer to live where I do and in the time that I do. I am so lucky!
This woman knew pain and suffering and she did what she could to help.
Could I also do what she did? Would I have been that strong?
Gosh! I hope I could have done something!
These photographs were shot with my Nikon P-90 digital camera and downloaded directly from the camera and then to this blog. My aim is to take my reader along with me on the journey, so although I am aware of my framing of the shot, content and quality, I am most interested in sharing the experience.

dang. that sickens me...and it was not too long ago, you know...
What a disturbing visual. Unbelievable.
Uggh!!! Makes me want to vomit just thinking about it!! Simply horrid...I cannot believe sometimes how much evil humanity perpetrates upon itself!! Powerful post! Love, Janine XO
Oh God in Heaven, what a horrible thing, from a time in the not-too-distant past.
Whenever people bemoan the state of the world, and say that we will never learn, never get any better? I'm glad that I've studied a fair amount of history. We don't progress at the rate that would likely help us the most, but we do make slow progress.
What an absolutely evil practice slavery was. That there was ever anyone on the face of this Earth who could have defended it, or claimed it was necessary simply boggles the mind.
Doesn't it make you wonder: what is it that we do now that will be looked back on with horror in 150 years? It certainly can't be anything that bad. At least I fervently hope.
Look at the progress we've made in even the last century. Just as a for instance, how domestic abuse is no longer viewed as par for the course, but as a glaring wrong.
We do make progress. Oh that we could make more, and more swiftly.
Wow, I've never even heard of one of those. That's insane. Really! Thanks for sharing that with us.
