Pigeons From Palatka

Pigeons live in the park where the boats dock in Palatka.

How could anyone not love these precocious birds?

Don't take my picture woman! .... Does my butt look fat?

Notice the bands on this bird's legs?

A gaggle of pigeons? No bands here... Hmmmm...

All of these photos were again shot and loaded directly from my Nikon P90 and then posted without alteration of any kind.

Great photos. I loved your moonshine post. Know a lot of families that got their starts running the stuff. My FIL died about 20 years ago at age 94 and HH tells me about his father's moonshine making days. Happy Easter to your and yours.

Great pictures! I didn't know anyone still had carrier pigeons. I think that is why they band them. Makes me wonder where that one calls home. Sort of a fun thing to do I suppose. May be they are just there to track the migration ???

They make me nervous as they fly very close to humans ... altho they are lovely to watch from afar. You captured the beautifully.

Happy Easter!
Have a beautiful weekend.

Lucy, Lucy; where you see beauty, I see pigeon poop and fallen feathers!

I think all birds are beautiful, but pigeons not so much. Pigeons tend to roost on the roof and send pigeon shit right down the windows! But then again, they are just being pigeons. Lovely pictures, and I do believe the band must be for migration patterns.

Yes, I get the poop thing... Have you ever been under a Canada Goose when they let loose? Once, we were on the bike and I got one blueberry blast right in the face! The most of it hit my goggles and I almost lost it giggling!
Thanks for adding about the flight pattern. I wouldn't have thought anybody cared where pigeons go and just didn't think about that. I'll have to Google it!

Hi, I came across your site via google looking for pigeon pictures. I was just wondering if i could use one of your pics as my twitter background?

BTW, the bands on the birds legs are registration rings. They basically mean this is probably a fancy or racing pigeon. Usually they'll have a hard plastic/metal ring on one leg with a number which relates to an owner and loft - kind of the pigeon's identity. On the other leg will often be a soft rubber ring which is placed on the leg before a race - this is a kind of race entry number. So if you see a pigeon with both these rings on, it's probably mid-race! :)
