The Turtles of the St John's River

Dick loves turtles!

...And we were so lucky to have been able to see them every day on a log near our dock.

This cute one is, (I think...) a
Peninsula Cooter

They were so cute! They would crawl up on this semi-submerged piece of an old dock and sun themselves. See how they hold their arms and legs out and sort of surf?

  Wheee!

And this guy on the right is what I think is a

Pseudemys nelsoni

Hi Theodore! Need a hand up?

All of these photos were again shot and loaded directly from my Nikon P90 and then posted without alteration of any kind.

I never knew turtles are surfers! What great pictures. I watched turtles last week on the "Life" series on Discovery and think they are really interesting creatures.

These photos are tremendous. I have a Nikon D40 but don’t think I could get pictures that good. Did you have it on automatic? I have never seen turtles doing this – it must have been a lot of fun watching them.

I LOVE this!!!! And I've never seen anything like it before. Thanks so much for sharing.

Turtles are way cooler than seeing the Easter bunny! Yeah.

Have a great week,
jj

Great post. I think turtles are interesting critters too. Once my son caught a 100 lb snapping turtle on the river near by our house. He thought for sure he had snagged some log at the bottom of the river, but up came this ancient looking turtle. Too bad they didn't have the camera along. They un-snagged him and he paddled away.
