What's Inside: The New Sarum Diner

Dick and went to this Diner on Sunday for In Search of Pie and I had to share!

This restaurant has been open as long as I can remember. (Actually sine 1943!) When I was a teen, my boyfriend and I would eat there because of location, but also it was always reasonable and decent food.

This is what it looked like when I was a kid.

The picture I have of the exterior in my Pie post is a current one and the outside was renovated I think about 20 years ago.

With an entrance like this, you just know it's going to be great!

One of two vintage Coke machines he has. Anyone would be thrilled with one and he has two! The plywood benches have been there as long as I can remember and they have formica tops with chrome strips around the sides.

Four, count them.... four milk shake machines and they use hard ice cream! (That's the pie counter at the end.)

These awesome relics are displayed on top of the pie counter!

Across from those is the sundae counter with all the syrups.
Did you notice the pine tongue and groove walls in back?

These are the stools lining the ice cream sundae counter.
Help yourself!

Have you ever seen one of these? We used to have them all over the place.
Insert your coin and your fortune will be told!
Will your future be sweet, salty, acidic or bite with pepper?
(The vinegar if for the french fries. A Canadian thing.)

One of the stuffed display cases.

Another milk shake machine and the thing on the right is a speaker from a drive in movie theatre. The second in bottle is from Aylmer Dairy. Closed now for many years.

Dick loved the rotary dial pay phone.

I loved the replica tin ceilings and light fixtures.

Several gas station signs.

The owner used to be a motorcycle cop.
(Canadian Cops ride Harley Davidson.)

Milk bottles from local dairies.

A small collection of cup and saucers.
(Huge seniors crowd here with the chicken dinners!)

The antique pine hutch holds more bottles. The hand carved Indian stands guard.

The two bottles in the middle are from the Labatt's Breweries, founded in London, Ontario.
See the little short neck? Well, our government decided if we didn't have long necks on our bottles, we couldn't use them in bar fights? The short necks were discontinued many years ago.

Detail on the hand carved Indian statue.

Well, thanks for tagging along on our visit to the Diner.
Hope you've seen some new things along the way and let's see.... where can I go next?

That was a nice walk down memory lane. Although many of the items are just a wee bit older than I am I remember many of these items from family memebers.

Love this visit! That Coke machine is to die for, and all that milkshake makers! I love the retro shiny-chrome look of everything. If I'm ever up your way, I MUST give this a try!
