Barns!

More of my beloved wooden barns!
The craftsmen are mostly gone now and the new barns are just not the same.

The spiked vents on the roof look so happy and cheerful!

Any idea how many gallons of paint it takes to cover a barn this size?

The natural weathering. This barn is located in a sandy soil area.
When it's windy, it literally sand blasts everything in it's path.
The gray side faces south.

Down in a protected valley, this little red beauty is well taken care of. So pleasing to the eye!

Tobacco Kilns. Truly a thing of our past.

I remember seeing the Tobacco Kilns when driving out east and to Canada...Your right, A thing of the past sadly.
There is something just so majestic and regal about the old barns...My heart aches when I see on ready to just fall over and give up the ghost...the end of an era.

I love the spiky vents on the first one: it gives the barn an almost medieval appearance!

I also had never seen tobacco kilns, or not at least knowing what I was looking at. I love barns, too. They do speak of a time that is moving away. We will be poorer for it.

Barn wood is so "in" for decorating but I prefer to see them still standing.
Times gone by for sure.
Thanks for the encouragement on my return to work. It will take a bit of an adjustment for sure but I am pretty easy going.

Growing up on a dairy farm, I've always loved the look of barns. My dad did some repair on ours by himself once, my mom practically had a fit with worry by the time he was done.

Another barn lover here! I can't possibly pick out a favorite among these - there're all lovely. Here in northern middle Tennesse, tobacco country, USA, half the barns become tobacco kilns come late summer/early fall. In spote of my distaste for cigarette smoke, I find the smell of the smoking barns intensely comforting; it speaks of simpler times and home.
