The descriptions of this area all describe it as old Florida and I concur. (Although only in my imagination do I have any idea what Florida looked like years ago!)
This post is just about the river.
to the left....
straight ahead...
to the right...The river runs from Orlando to Jacksonville and has several lakes here and there. This particular part is brackish water, (rusty - brown,) but many of the lakes are crystal clear.
The countryside on the east bank is forest and cottages and homes. On the west side is the Ocala National Forest.
Although there are many trailer parks, campgrounds and resorts, it is still quiet and lovely. Fish abound in the river including perch, bass, what the locals call a blue gill and catfish. Several other species too!
We sat out on the long dock and watched the water go by.
We watched the birds and turtles and gators.
This is what one of the sunsets looked like...
One night there was a fire over in the Ocala National forest!
We've both agreed this is one of our favorite areas!
All of these photos were again shot and loaded directly from my Nikon P90 and then posted without alteration of any kind.

I love the sparkle of the sunlight on the water, the old pier posts, the bird skimming the water, the distant fire...but that sunset! Magnificent!
Skimmed back over the past few posts and enjoyed your trip immensely. The Niagara Falls post is incredible - I had no idea it had frozen to that point!

Your photos are very good – I like the one with the duck, it is so clear. I have been reading about the St John’s River . I did not know it was so large and pretty. I can’t believe how close your pictures of the eagle are. When we were in Alaska last year I took some pictures of an eagle but it was so far away, yours are great. Thanks for visiting my blog.

The river's headwaters are good deal south of Orlando near Vero Beach in a vast marsh as complex but not nearly as large the Everglades. In fact, the two ecosystems are mirror images of each other.

Thanks Airborne Dad! Thank you for clearing up the origins of the St Johns River and yes... You betcha! We are definitely going back! I have more pics here and there that I'll be posting over the next couple of weeks. So much to see and different every hour.
