Going Through The Motions

I've always been certain that if you are having trouble believing in something, the simple action of going through the motions will activate the memories and launch the emotions in your heart.

We are well into the 15th of December and as the big day approaches, I hear people around me lamenting: "I don't have the Christmas Spirit' or  'I just can't get in the Christmas mood!"

I know..... As I age, the magical sparks of this very special day have been stamped out by the stress of everyday life.  When folks claim that life gets in the way... it truly does and I would just like to say:

IT'S NOT FAIR!     ...BUT!

Whenever I've been sad, I get up every day, put my makeup on and go through the motions.

Whenever my world has been so dark, I get up, put my makeup on and go through the motions.

When I have lost my best friend, (and I have... ) Yep! You've got it! I get up, put my makeup on and go through the motions.

I'm not superwoman. I'm not naturally happy and I do not have life handed to me on a silver platter.

I simply choose to live this life as happily as I can make it.

Hold sadness and misery in one hand? Hold happiness and sunshine in your other? Which one would you choose?

I will always choose happiness.

The simple act of making a day normal or routine will stave off the darkness.  By feeling normal, your day will come round to be like your others and happy things will start to make themselves visible.

I know this is a difficult time of year for a lot of folks and it's going to be darned hard to put on the chipper face and smile, but do it you must.  Just the simple act of clenching all those muscles makes you feel perkier somehow and the next thing you know, someone will be smiling back...

...And that's all you need to have sunshine in any day!

...And it all started by going through the motions....

Look at this beautiful card I found at the BFM store! I think I'll sign it and mail it off to someone I haven't seen in awhile. That'll make me happy!

I'm with you on that one...choosing happiness works every time. I'm doing my blog entry on Joy tomorrow morning. We are definitely thinking along the same lines for sure.

Happiness is the only route to inward warmth & peace ... prayer is the topping.

Merry Christmas ~

that is very good advice you gave and something I've been guilty of this holiday season (no Christmas spirit) but I'm going to remember what you said and put a big smile on my face (and maybe a Christmas cookie in my tummy :)
