Homemade Hamburger Helper.

My Dick just loves hamburger helper. Unfortunately, I hate the stuff in all it’s boxed glory. Being the good girlfriend/ wife substitute and general life partner I am, I had to come up with a compromise.

Here it goes:

Into a smaller Dutch oven throw two pounds of ground beef.  I don’t need to pre grease it with olive oil because we get our hamburger from my cousin who raises Speckled Park cattle and they have a higher fat to lean ratio, but keep cooking oil in mind if you buy lean from your grocer. A little butter in the pan always helps with the flavor too. Salt and pepper to taste.

Throw in about 1/2 a Spanish onion chopped up. Let it caramelize with the meat.

Add a can of tomato sauce, a clove of garlic minced, a couple of shakes of Worchestershire sauce for zip and let that bubble away simmering for about 30 minutes until the flavors meld.

Throw a box of pasta in. Don’t pre cook it, just throw it in straight from the bos~ (Less dishwashing!)  As you can see I’m all for whole wheat and I like some thing with a spiral to hold the sauce.  Add enough water to your pot to cover the pasta and let it simmer about ten minutes to cook the stuff.

Grate some cheese, once again I like cheddar, but follow your own taste buds and stir that in.  Once the cheese melts, you’re in business.

Spoon into bowls. You could add chopped chives or parsley for color. Or maybe a daub of sour cream would be the ticket?

There you are!
Satisfying your honey's taste buds and your need for actual nutrition too!

I need to keep Hamburger Helper Tomato Basil in the house for when the grandsons are here overnight. That, along with green beans and applesauce topped with cinnamon hearts is what they call: THE BEST DINNER EVER!

I can tolerate Hamburger Helper but HH cannot. He does all the cooking at our house so he gets to choose. Yes I painted our Christmas card but it is not that complicated. If you would like to know how I can describe the technique for you. Just let me know.
